Wow! So, here's a great idea.
In the Arts section of today's NY Times, Melena Ryzik has an article about turning old dumpsters into swimming pools. I know, it sounds kind of gross. As far as I can make out though, once the new liner is in, it's no more disgusting than a regular pool.
Anyhow, it seems like a good answer to hot summer nights in big cities. Here's a link to the article.
